AAITF intercepted cocaine trafficking bound for Vientiane at Suvarnabhumi Airport

On 12 March 2017 at 14.50 hrs., a joint AAITF Operation team of ONCB, the Royal Thai Customs, and Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Royal Thai Police, operated upon the information from the Japan Customs in Thailand and arrested Mr. Oscar Benicio Irala Lopez, a bearer of Paraguay passport, traveling from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Dubai, UAE and Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand to Vientiane, Lao PDR as the destination.

From the primary inspection of his luggage, it was believed that there were drugs concealed inside. Therefore, the luggage was thoroughly inspected with the presence of Mr. Lopez and found 7 soap-size bars of cocaine, total weight at about 1,255 grams inside the luggage. The drugs were seized and Mr. Lopez was detained.

Mr. Oscar Lopez said that he was hired for 2,000 USD by Mr. Felippe, a Paraguayan who lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When he arrived at Sao Paulo Airport, a Brazilian male gave him the luggage containing the cocaine bars and told him to cover them with his clothes before checking in for departure.

This Mr. Filippe had booked a hotel for him in Vientiane, Lao PDR and he would have to take a taxi to that hotel. Another man would pick up the luggage and pay him his wages.

This case cannot extend the investigation.
