International Cooperation leading to an arrest by AITF
On Wednesday 1, June 2016 at approximately 08.00 p.m., ONCB received a contact from Guangzhou police and Customs that they had arrested a West African drug syndicate and found an international cargo shipping document to Thailand. Chinese authority believed that it was a smuggling of narcotics and gave the name of logistic company. The shipment would arrive at the company’s agent in Thailand on June 1, 2016. After that, the company would contact the consignee at the name and telephone number given in the document for delivery. On June 2, 2016 at approximately 09.30 a.m., ONCB officers together with Narcotics Control Customs Officers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and National Security Command Center officers operated under the Airport Interdiction Task Force - AITF operation searched the target cargo at the logistic company office in Bangkok and found 8,550 grams (eight thousand five hundred and fifty grams) of ICE including packages concealed inside 34 lady handbags. Narcotics officers confiscated the drug and concealment and requested a permission to extend this arrest. Later on the same day, the arrest team arrested a suspect who received the cargo with concealed drug in the parking lot of a residential building in Muang District of Samut Prakarn Province. On June 3, 2016 at approximately 04.00 a.m., the arrest team arrested a Nigerian male while coming to the building to pick up the drug from Suspect no.1, who was paid by him. After that, the arrest team took Suspect no. 2 to his rented apartment in Lard Phrao area for further search. The arrest team found his Thai wife but did not find any illegal items. During the search, there was a call to the suspect’s mobile phone. Suspect no.2 gave the name and referred to that person as his West African friend to whom he must hand over the confiscated drug. Suspect no.2 said that he rented a room to store and deliver drugs therefore the arrest team took Suspect no.2 to that room and found only one small packet of ICE in a lady handbag similar to the handbags found at the logistic company. It was believed that Suspect no.3 and his gang had already taken the drugs. Officers then confiscated the found drug and handbag as evidence in this case. All suspects are now in a judicial process of the Kingdom of Thailand.
