ONCB organizes the 3rd ASEAN Drug Monitoring Network Operational Workshop to strengthen the collaboration in establishing an ASEAN database of drugs and drug
The Office of the Narcotics Control Board, Thailand (ONCB) has initiated the idea of establishing an ASEAN Drugs and Drug Abuse Monitoring Network (ADMN) in 2015 under the framework of ASEAN Narcotics Center (ASEAN-NARCO) as a monitoring mechanism and forum for ASEAN Member States to share data and information concerning drug situation, related policies, countermeasure initiatives, new knowledge and findings, as well as warning signs of emerging problems in the region. All ASEAN Member States agreed with the ASEAN Drug Monitoring Network Work Plan which can be divided into 3 phases: Phase I is to seek common agreement on the concept and work plan; Phase II is to develop collaboration and tools; and Phase III is to develop a regional drug monitoring network database. Under this work plan, ADMN will meet regularly to analyze data from each ASEAN Member States and draft the annual ASEAN Drug Monitoring Report.
With contribution and support from all ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Drug Monitoring 2015 was produced and presented at various regional forums such as the 37th ASEAN Senior Official on Drug Matters (37th ASOD) Meeting in Thailand, the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters (5th AMMD) during 19-20 October 2016 in Singapore, to high level visitors as well as on the ASEAN-NARCO website. The ASEAN Drug Monitoring Report 2015 has been officially recognized and publicized internationally.
To continue with the ASEAN Drugs and Drug Abuse Monitoring Network project, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Ministry of Justice, is organizing the 3rd ASEAN Drug Monitoring Network Operational Workshop during 9 -11 March 2017 at Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok. There will be approximately 120 participants attending this ADMN Operational Workshop comprising of representatives from each of the 10 ASEAN Member States, dialogue partner countries, namely, People’s Republic of China, Japan and Republic of Korea, UNODC, ASEAN Secretariat and Administrative Committee of Substance Abuse Academic Network of Thailand. The 3rd ADMN operational workshop will focus on the exchange of data and information in the ADMN questionnaire for the first half (January-June) of 2016 and to draft the ASEAN Drug Monitoring 2016 which will be presented in the 38th ASOD meeting in Viet Nam. In addition, the 3rd ADMN Operational Workshop will also revise the questionnaire, develop an instruction for filling in the questionnaire and continue with the discussion regarding ADMN section in the ASEAN-NARCO website including the sharing of drugs database on the website.
