Republic of Singapore Supported the Interdiction of Illicit Drug Trafficking in the Golden Triangle

             Republic of Singapore by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and the Police Coast Guard (PCG) collaboratively supported three vessels to support the implementation of ASEAN Cooperation Plan to Tackle Illicit Drug Production and Trafficking in the Golden Triangle 2017-2019 which was extended to 2022 and to strengthen regional cooperation to solve illicit drug problems in the Greater Mekong Subregion. As a plan initiator, Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) received the three boats from Singapore, one PT boat and two SU boats, before handing them over to Lao People's Democratic Republic and Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

             Wednesday 16 October 2019, The Police Coast Guard Headquarters, Singapore

             Mr. Niyom Termsrisuk, Secretary-General of NCB on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the ONCB, signed the Deed of Grant with Commissioner Cheang Keng Keong, Commander of Police Coast Guard on behalf of the Government of Republic of Singapore, to receive the three vessels. In this regard, Mr. Ng Ser Song, Director of CNB, and two-countries officers honorably attended the Deed Signing Ceremony.

              Monday 9 March 2020, The BMT Pacific Ltd. (BMTP) Port, Samut Prakan Province, Thailand

               His Excellency Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Justice of Thailand, and His Excellency

               Mr. Kevin Cheok, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Thailand, honorably attended the Deed Signing Ceremony between Thailand – Lao PDR and Thailand – Myanmar as witnesses to the handing over of boats to Lao PDR and Myanmar. Three signatories were

               Mr. Niyom Termsrisuk, Secretary-General of NCB, on behalf of Thailand; Mr. Vongpeth Senvongsa, Deputy Secretary-General of Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision (LCDC), on behalf of Lao PDR; and Pol.Col. Hla Min, Head of Administration Department, Drug Enforcement Division of Myanmar Police Force, on behalf of Myanmar.

                Wednesday 11 March 2020, Chiang Saen Port, Chiang Rai Province, Thailand

                ONCB delegation delivered two SU boats to Lao PDR and Myanmar. A representative from Lao PDR, Mr. Invong Vannajomjun, and representative from Myanmar, Pol.Capt. Nyo Pu,each received one SU boat to patrol along the Mekong to tackle drug smugglings in the region.

                Friday 27 March 2020, Ranong Port, Ranong Province, Thailand

               ONCB delegation handed over a PT Boat to Myanmar. In this regard, Pol.Lt.Col. Ko Ko Naing was a Myanmar representative to receive the boat for patrolling along the Andaman Sea in order to suppress the illicit drugs smuggling from the Golden Triangle by using the waterway as well as to intercept drug trafficking in the Andaman Sea before entering to ASEAN Member States.

               The valuable dedication of the Republic of Singapore would benefit the patrolling missions to intercept precursor and drug trafficking in the Golden Triangle area as well as to prevent drug smuggling from the said area to ASEAN Member States. Furthermore, it would strengthen the ability of ASEAN to tackle drug smugglings in the region and keep our region free from drugs.
