The Training Seminar for Competent National Authorities in South and East and the Pacific
12-15 July 2016, the International Narcotics Control Board ( INCB) with the cooperation of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board ( ONCB ) organized a Training Seminar for Competent National Authorities in South and East Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok. Dr. Viroj Sumyai, Board Member of the INCB, Mr. Sirinya Sitdhichai, Secretary-General of the Narcotics Control Board of Thailand , Mr. Vachira Aumpon, Director of Narcotics Control Division, Food and Drug Administration co-chaired the opening of the training seminar on 12 July 2016 at the Century Park Hotel. On 15 July 2016 will be the session for a national awareness raising workshop for Thailand on the availability of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for medical and scientific purpose. The training seminar and national workshop are part of the new global INCB Learning Project, launched in early 2016 to provide technical assistance to Member States to improve reporting and compliance with the provisions of the international drug control conventions. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the adequate availability of internationally controlled substances for medical and scientific purposes while preventing their abuse and diversion to illicit channels, to improve capacity to estimate licit needs and maintain standard reporting. The organizing of such training seminar is also in compliance with the outcome of the UNGASS. Fifty participants from competent national authorities of 18 countries in South and East Asia and the Pacific who are responsible for cooperation with the Board in the implementation of the international drug control conventions attended the training seminar, namely, Bangladesh, Bhutan Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Thailand and Vietna
