The 2nd ASEAN Work Plan Meeting

                  The Office of the Narcotics Control Board hosted the Second Meeting on the ASEAN Work Plan on Securing ASEAN Community against Illicit Drugs 2016-2025 in Bangkok on 22-23 August 2016 to review the draft ASEAN Work Plan which had been developed at the First Meeting of ASEAN Work Plan on Securing ASEAN Community against Illicit Drugs 2016-2025 hosted by BNN, Indonesia on 2-3 December 2015 in Bali. The meeting was opened and chaired by Miss Rachanikorn Sarasiri, Advisor to the ONCB. The meeting agreed to the final draft of the said ASEAN Work Plan for further submission to the 37th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters held in Thailand on 24-27 August 2016 in Bangkok for adoption and to the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters held in Singapore on19-20 October 2016 for endorsement. The Work Plan details the components and proposed activities for its effective implementation to control illicit drugs activities and mitigate negative consequences of drugs problem to society. The proposed national and regional level activities range from preventive education, treatment and rehabilitation, law enforcement, research, alternative development, and extra-regional cooperation. The references used in developing the Work Plan included the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025 and Report of the Drug Free ASEAN 2015: Evaluation and Recommendations Post 2015. This Work Plan also represents a continuation from the previous ASEAN Work Plan 2009-2015. The Work Plan is divided into 7 sections with 25 components, namely, i) General, ii) Preventive Education, iii) Treatment and Rehabilitation, iv) Law Enforcement, v) Research, vi) Alternative Development, and vii) Extra-regional Cooperation. Sixty delegates from ASEAN Member States and Representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat attended the meeting.
