ONCB, Thailand met NCB, Singapore for their 12th Bilateral Talk on Drug Control Cooperation in April 2018

               On 4 April 2018, ONCB hosted the 12th Thailand – Singapore Bilateral Meeting on Drug Control at the Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi, Mr. Sirinya Sitdhichai, Secretary-General of the Narcotics Control Board (NCB) was the chairman and head of Thai delegation, and Mr. Ng Ser Song, Director of Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) was the head of Singapore delegation.

               The objective of the meeting was to exchange information on drug situation, to follow up the results of the implementation in accordance with the resolutions of the last meeting, and to discuss about drug control cooperation in the future. The salient points of discussion include the following: cooperation on drug interdiction between the two countries and drug control in the Golden Triangle in accordance with the ASEAN Work Plan to tackle Illicit Drug production and trafficking in the Golden Triangle through many vital cooperation programs, for example, ASEAN-NARCO, ASEAN Airport interdiction task force (AAITF), ASEAN Seaport interdiction task force (ASITF), and the Safe Mekong Operation project. Thailand expressed its appreciation to Singapore for its generous support given to the Safe Mekong Operation, highest among other ASEAN members. The contribution included English Training for officers from 6 member countries working at the Safe Mekong Coordination Center in Chiang Mai province and patrol boats for Thailand, Myanmar and Lao PDR. In addition, Singapore also agreed to the request of Thailand for further support on trainings/study visits for Thai officers to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences on the use of on-line media in drug prevention campaigns among youth groups. Singapore emphasized that ASEAN countries should have the same position at international forums, such as the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and requested Thailand to voice the standpoints of Singapore and ASEAN in the same tune that are eliminating drugs in region and achieving the drug-free ASEAN.
