The 4th ASEAN Seaport Interdiction Task Force (ASITF) Meeting


              The 4th ASEAN Seaport Interdiction Task Force (ASITF) Meeting was held during 8-11 September 2019 in Hanoi, Viet Nam, with the participation of the 30 representatives from 9 ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Secretariat, and China - the dialogue country of the group. Lieutenant General Pham Van Cac, Secretary-General of Standing Office on Drugs Control of Viet Nam (SODC), cum Director-General of Counter Narcotics Department (CND), presided over the opening ceremony on 9 September 2019.

             The meeting provided the ASEAN Member States with the opportunity to share and discuss their national drug situation, recent statistics on drug-related arrests, cases, and modus operandi and concealment method of drug smuggling via international seaports. List of ASITF Focal Points has also been updated. In addition, the ASEAN Member States agreed to utilize ASITF WhatsApp Group and hotline to exchange information and deliver timely responses, especially regarding cross-border operations.

             The 5th ASITF Meeting will be held in Brunei in 2020.
